Rural Nations CIC urgently seek a freelance Film Exhibition Producer to work initially on the 2025 edition of the Hebrides International Film Festival in September.
The Hebrides International Film Festival presents film screenings in venues across the islands of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra with the theme of Sustainable remote lives – international film narratives with inspiring climate action documentaries. The festival champions high quality independent features and short films from Scottish and international independent film makers. HIFF also undertakes outreach activities which are linked to the content of the film programme, industry masterclasses with visiting film makers, Q&A’s, discussions, outdoor wildlife lectures, whale watching and beach cleans.
HIFF2025 is presented in collaboration with An Lanntair Arts Centre and a selection of rural island venues.

Working within a small team at Rural Nations the Film Exhibition Producer will support the delivery of the HIFF Film Festival during September 2025 and following the festival delivery may go on to work on other film exhibition projects for Rural Nations CIC.
Pay rate: Freelance Fixed fee £2520. (Equivalent 27hrs per week at £15.50 per hr over a 6-week period, £26000 per annum pro rata). Flexible hours, pension contribution & travel expenses paid.
Timescale 25th August to 3rd October 2025 over 6 weeks.
Location: Outer Hebrides (Lewis and Harris)
Structure: Hybrid working from home and /or from temporary Company office / local venues as appropriate.
Producer Experience: 2yr+ (some mentoring and support is offered in the role for an emerging Film Exhibition Producer).

The Brief:
The Festival Producer will assist the Rural Nations Festival Programmer/Director to deliver the production elements of the Hebrides International Film Festival 24th to 27th September. Working within a team including part time Programmer/Director, Uist/Barra Film Exhibition Producer, Film Content producer, projectionists and Marketing/Access Support officers.
The Freelance work will include the following tasks: -
- To work on the festival co-ordination supporting the delivery of the festival programme at 5 venues at Lewis and Harris.
- Work with and support the rural Island venue promoters and An Lanntair Arts Centre to deliver the HIFF Festival days at their venues. Including support with event management, Health and Safety and Standard Operating Procedures in venues.
- Support the associated Festival activities including arranging Masterclasses, lectures, beach cleans and other associated Festival activities which enhance the Film programme.
- Working with project partner organisations and national press to co-ordinate and support the marketing of the festival including online presentation of the events on the Rural Nations website and local social media and local community newsletters.
- Work with the Festival Volunteers both at An Lanntair and at the other venues including arranging training as they prepare to support the screenings.
- Support the Monitoring and evaluate the festival delivery, develop the evaluation research materials and processes, then collect and evaluate these materials, photographs and other material for inclusion in the final project reports.
- The Film Exhibition Producer will encourage the development of activities, screenings and engagements under Green Arts guidelines and support the promotion of Green Arts practice in all aspects of the festival.

Rural Nations (Scotland) CIC is an artist led production company based in Stornoway which commissions and presents film, experimental theatre and strategic arts projects.
Working across a broad portfolio of arts initiatives Rural Nations CIC delivers the annual Hebrides International Film Festival and produces our own Island originated professional theatre and film projects in partnership with artists and organisations based across the UK and from other countries.
Over the last 9 years the company has developed an informal network of 13 rural island venues across the Hebrides where we have supported local promoters to present touring performance programmes, Cinema screenings, Film Festival screenings, Carnivals, workshop & lecture programmes. Although we often work in partnership with An Lanntair Arts Centre in Stornoway our work is focussed on rural community venues across the Outer Hebrides and how they can be supported to deliver Cinema, performance events and workshops.

Evaluation of Proposals:
The proposals will be evaluated by a small panel comprising of representatives of the Rural Nations Board of Directors and HIFF2025 partners.
Interviews will take place during the period 21st and 22 August in person or by zoom.
